Und da passt das "negg" dann wie rein? (Aber du bist mit "Rotte" vom Witz gar nicht so weit weg.)
Rotten ist die Mehrzahl von Rotte. Egg steht wahrscheinlich für Ecke oder Egge. Somit also Wildschwein-Rudel-Ecke oder Wildschwein-Rudel-Feld.
Ich bin dann mal so frei, und löse meine Theorie auf, wieso das lustig sein könnte:
Rotten Egg - na, getroffen?
"Rot", weil die Burg aus in der Gegend vorkommendem rötlichem Gestein erbaut wurde und "Ecke", weil sie über einer steil abfallenden Felswand thronte. Die Ruine von Burg Rottenegg kann man übrigens heute noch besichtigen.
